Apogenix is developing novel drugs that act either as blockers, inducers or sensitizers of apoptosis. All of its pipeline candidates are protein-based therapeutic candidates which have demonstrated dose-dependent efficacy in animal models. By using different strategies to efficiently modulate apoptosis, the company is well positioned to build a diversified pipeline across various disease indications. Apogenix´ goal is to further strengthen its leading position in this field, e.g. by being one of the first companies to move a compound acting as an apoptosis sensitizer into clinical development.Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is a natural process in the body and has several functions. For example, it plays a crucial part in maintaining the integrity of any multicellular organism by clearing the body of damaged, infected, old, or abnormally transformed cells.
A variety of diseases are associated with disturbances of this tightly regulated and finely tuned process especially when too little or too much cell death occurs. Therefore, the targeted modulation of apoptosis holds great potential as a new treatment option for numerous diseases.
